Subj:   Re: Compressed backups

From:   Bergman, Ysbrand

Hi,

Data is uncompressed in an arcmain based solution as it is essentially a row based utility. DSA on the other hand is a block based utility. As such it will move the individual data blocks directly, from the database to the backup infrastructure. This implies that compressed blocks (BLC) will stay as is.

Keep in mind that your tape devices will no longer be able to compress data even further which implies that the actual performance benefit will vary from case to case.

DSA is available starting with Teradata 14.10 and currently only for NetBackup based BAR environments.

Regards

Ysbrand
