Yes we have applied MVC on Varchar. It works great. Here is an example of the DDL. Don't remember having to update an DBSControl parameter to do so. We do not use Algorithmic compression.

What tool are you using? At the time of our conversion we were only able to find 1 (Atanasoft) that could support MVC on Varchar.

Example:

     SROUTETOQUEUE VARCHAR(25) CHARACTER SET LATIN NOT CASESPECIFIC
            COMPRESS ('Approve','Complete','CSR2','CSR Dept','Supervisor','Manager','Director'),
