Hi, I guess you upgraded your system to 13.1? Did you change the No13dot0Backdown dbs controll parameter? System documentation does not list Varchar compression but I guess it is (see docu extract below) On a new installed system it works from the beginning. Never the less I faced some other issues with longer compression lists. So keep testing... Ulrich ---- No13dot0Backdown Purpose Field Group Valid Settings Default Enables several 13.10 features which, if enabled, prevent an upgraded system from being backed down to release 13.0 without a sysinit. General TRUE: Enables several 13.10 features and prevents Teradata Database 13.10 from being backed down to release 13.0 database management software without a sysinit on 13.0. FALSE: On systems that have been upgraded from Teradata Database 13.0 to 13.10, several features are disabled. As long as this setting remains FALSE, the system can be backed down to release 13.0 database management software. On systems that have been initialized (sysinited) on Teradata Database 13.10, the default setting is TRUE, and cannot be changed. On systems that have been upgraded to 13.10 from a prior release, the default setting is FALSE. Setting Description Changes Take Effect Usage Notes After the DBS Control Record has been written. Use of the following 13.10 features requires this setting to be TRUE, and therefore precludes backdown on upgraded systems: . . . . . . Algorithmic compression for column values Data block compression Data block merging during full table operations Temporal table support Timestamp-based partition elimination Time zone strings Ulrich Arndt
