Subj:   Re: Defining SI on columns that are part of PI

From:   DWellman

Hi,

I don't believe there's a 'problem' with definining an SI on a column which is also part of the PI. In some (very specific) cases involving PPI's this can actually be an advantage.

Whether the SI helps with joins or not is (as always) to do with data volumes, selectivity, the sql etc. You can't easily predict it ahead of time. Can you try it ? Add the SI, explain some queries and see whether the SI gets used.

Cheers,

Dave
