I can use fastload or multiload, whatever works.

In the end I've used multiload, using the vartext format option.

In order to strip out the binary values I used

     trim (both '01'XC from :columnA) , trim (both '01'XC from :columnB), etc

This worked remarkably well and will only present a problem if that data contains a comma.
