Craig,

In the NetVault Backup options tab, the backup 'types' are listed as Full, Full On-Line, Full Clustered, Full Clustered On-line. etc.

On-line backups currently require journaling (this will change with ARC 12 and NV 8.1).

so, Full or Full Clustered would be your choices.

Full clustered, when selected, will activate the MPP Option area, on the same screen.

Number of nodes to use will be the number that are configured as Teradata clients, probably 4 in your case. Cluster batch size is an option, it will default to 1. From your description, with 54 amps, I assume you are running 2-amp clusters, so you probably have 27 clusters in your system (verify this via Vproc manager).

Leave Parallel data streams per client to 1 (unless your Teradata clients have two tape drives each, then use 2)

So, a 7 cluster batch size would launch 4 streams, the first three would backup 7 clusters each, the last stream would be 6 ( 27/7 = 3 + 6) There is a "retry failed cluster" option, this would allow the backup to withstand a failure on a stream (typically tape drive or media errors) and re-schedule that stream to another client. This allows much more resilience for a backup, but will extend the overall backup time if an error occurs.

Bill
