Ruth, If your DNS already has MYCMNPYCOP1.XXX.YYY.ZZ all your client machines that connect to the teradata box can get this name resolved via DNS, then you really do not require an alias or any host file modifications. .logon MYCMNPY will automatically get transformed by CLI One possible thing you might have to check the DNS suffixes mentioned in the client machines (in your laptop do an ipconfig /all to see all that greek) To begin with try to ping MYCMNPYCOP1 (not the fully qualified name) from your laptop.... if that's getting resolved to the correct IP address pointed by MYCMNPYCOP1.XXX.YYY.ZZ then you are good to go just by using MYCMNPY rgds Joseph D'silva
