Just to follow up on Dieter's recommendation about using Statement Triggers, rather than Row Triggers.

Yes, it worked fine thanks, Dieter. Actually, however, it all became a little academic in the end as it (very quickly) became clear that one cannot use Triggers and Join Indexes on the same table. So, I had a choice, and chose to use a Join Index (which I needed for some other process).

I wonder when we'll get the facility to create both Triggers and Join Indexes on the same table. Anybody know?
