Well, yes, Query 1 and 3 are very different. But #2 is actually an example of other queries that we've run on the same table. It still comes out to be the same explain. What I question is why the one query is trying to "traverse the index" when all it has to do is sample in the same manner as one of the other columns. It's yucky, that's what.
