In an ODBC based application (or a CLI application that uses Record mode) ONLY the RDBMS pays any attention to the format clause.
It formats the data and converts it to character if the select statement requests it to do so. (Either through an ANSI CAST or through
the older Teradata casting syntax.) Otherwise it simply ignores the Format clause.
For BTEQ (or any application running in Field mode) the DBS also honors the Format statement... but does not require the explicit
casting.
