Code this right after the BTEQ statement.

.IF ERRORCODE <> 0 THEN .QUIT 8

This one happens to send an 8 but you can send whatever you want and put a condition code check on the JCL step.

You can also do this one.

.IF ACTIVITYCOUNT = 0 THEN .QUIT 9
