Thanks for your comments, Pat. You're right, of course -- nothing is free. We are in an unusual position: we have a very large machine, we don't use many front-end tools, and we have a lot of ad hoc users writing their own SQL, some of which is unbelievably nasty. For us, therefore, query logging is a necessity, and it is a tiny portion of the total workload. We already use access logging to capture nearly every ad hoc query, and the Query Log is supposed to be faster, so we're planning to use it as soon as we can. Others may hesitate.
