On my install, I go to:

Start -> NCR Teradata for Windows NT Demo -> TNT Service Control

and then click on 'Start'. The status window will let you know when the database is running and logons are enabled.

FWIW: I found it faster to create a short-cut for the Service Control:

"C:\Program Files\Ncr\NCR Teradata For Windows NT Demo\bin\TNTService.exe"
