Actually IsNumber is equivalent to something like : IF <> is a valid number THEN True Else False. Similar with Isdate()

The reason because we use genio instead of plain SQL is to gain all the extra features like Impact Analysis, Version Control, Metadata Oriented, Database Tracking Changes, Concurrent User Control, Standard reinforcement, etc. Maybe the more important is that we can use the Genio pseudocode to define extremely complex Business Rules than business users can read and understand and the tool will generate the complex sql (case statements, etc) for us. I tried some other tools in the past and this one generates a very good SQL.

The transformations that we don't do in Teradata are mostly preparation steps to have the file ready to be fastloaded. You know, "sometimes" we receive files without the correct format ;-)
