I completely agree, loading for transformation to unload for final loading is too much of an overhead (apart from the fact that it requires you to keep two DB systems around.) In my opinion this is a very Informatica centered view, knowing that this software product tends to do a lot of transforms at the table, lovingly Oracle, level.

I generally recommend to do some transforms externally if you have a suitable ETL product and some Teradata internally depending on the type of transformation and the data needed to perform it.
