For Windows, the Teradata Client for Windows Installation Manual has a section entitled 'Speeding up Logon' that documents the environment variable that Dieter mentioned. If you set foo=4, CLI will do GetHostByName for foocop1 - foocop4 and then stop. If this were not set it would attempt foocop5 and this would time out after some time.
