I would look long and hard at your archive strategy before you go down the route of breaking tables into smaller chunks. This approach
is very un-Teradata and will only increase your administration workload and query complexity in the long-run. Sites like Walmart and SBS
have massive databases with several terabytes of data and I'd be very surprised if they indulge in breaking up tables to facilitate
archiving. There are many ways to 'skin the cat' when it comes to archiving - this is where I'd focus your attention.
