I think Paul has hit on a real strength of Teradata - the 'Refine and re-run' query capability. I know that my customers do this all the time as when they first get an idea, they have to do multiple queries to identify exactly 'how to ask the question' and when they receive answers, the data tells them something else and helps them refine that until they get to where they want to be. It happens all the time and because it is so prevalent in the Teradata environment we often overlook this powerful capability! I know the Oracle customers we (eventually) migrate to Teradata (not they OLTP stuff - just their EDW stuff) would never ever let their users do this type of processing. Also, in most cases they can't! Again, that's just my experience.
