Thanks to the other Anomy poster for some useful information.
Why did Oracle leave a better impression than NCR? Our issues were carefully answered by Oracle and we felt that they were making the
effort to understand our project and its requirements. NCR seemed like they were bluffing their way through some of our questions and in
one case the answer was just dishonest. In spite of that we're still leaning toward Teradata, but I'm certainly having second thoughts.
We are working from actual requirements and so I find it insulting to question whether we are going to make a major investment based on
some dinners or a salesman with a good personality or a few coffee cups. How about suggesting that a nice set of earrings will close the
deal. Maybe I should stay home and make some cookies instead of doing something complicated like select a database.
The issues that we're concerned about was in the question that I asked: "In comparing Oracle and Teradata, can you compare your
experiences with the two vendors? Things like support, reliability, how upgrades are done, how quick are problems fixed, costs, etc." I'm
not interested in answers from NCR, but the actual experiences of people who have been customers of both Oracle and Teradata.
