Hi James -- U generally do not want to collect stats until a new table or radically designed table has enough volume to make stats a good idea. If U collect with zero rows and there is rapid growth, the Optimizer will be badly fooled until the first volume driven collect stats happens. I have seen this done multiple ways: generate a new list daily or weekly and collect during a low activity time period, monitor tables for growth and collect when an agreed upon amount of change has occurred. Tables are put in the list once a certain volume is reached, after one week, et al. I have seen some places initially collect on the PIs and collect on other attributes when it becomes necessary. Some places rely upon sampled stats and avoid collecting as a scheduled process. There are many approaches. None are perfect. Each has its charms. Good Luck, Bill Gregg
