Subj:   Re: Limiting the available nodes in a server

From:   Prescott, Kyle

It's possible on a couple of fronts.....

To isolate the storage - just create a separate database and move all the storage into it you don't want to use/allocate for the system. You don't really want to get rid of it as you have it allocated across all the amps and is used for system spool, temp space, etc. Also you get the inherent parallelism from the amps and data - don't take that away if you have it.

On the node front, you can use TASM to limit the processor capacity of the system to 50% by changing a simple setting - which takes effectively 2 of the 4 nodes in the configuration away and allows you to run and grow into the configuration over time by simply adjusting the TASM parameter that governs that operation.

If you are considering a new configuration, you will want to engage your Teradata account team and discuss the new Teradata Inteliflex offering that allows for you to flexibly add capacity as needed. They'd love to talk to you about that I'm sure. :-)
