Subj:   Re: Restrict updates during backup run

From:   VANDORMAEL Raf

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

At the moment, I think online backups are not an option at our shop. We update our data via nightly batches (or sometimes during the day), by using fastload most of the time. They contain DDL statements for creating a copy of the target table + error tables, just before the start of its load. As I understood further in this topic's discussion, DDL can form an obstacle for online backups?

Also setting up online backups, is something I don't want to do in a quick and dirty way. But I'll certainly investigate and consider it for our shop at another moment.

Currently, I'm facing the problem that sometimes, (more frequent than in the past) fastloads are running during our weekly full backup. As you can imagine I want to put a stop to it as soon as possible, on a fairly clean way.

So I think I'm gonna go for the throttle solution, although I still have some additinoal question on that one.

Best regards,

Raf V
