Hi Mark,

WE do run our backups in ONLINE mode, but, it does have quite a few disadvantages.

My client wants the system to be available 24*7 (for read and write), but, there is some issue now and then.

When my backup starts to "Enable Archive logging on...." on Databases, and if some DML is already running, backup goes into blocked state and sometime it is in turn causing the blocked sessions to go into DEADLOCK scenario.

Online backups doesn't support DDL's (Also, your Fastloads might cause backup to fail when it tries to create/drop error tables).
