Open NBUBACKUP->Media and Device Management->Media->Volume Pool you will see pools with different names. Expand Pools where the volumes are. Put the cursor on volume names and right click. If 'unfreeze' is dim it means the tape is available. You can unfreeze a tape if a tape is frozen. This is how I find unused/available tapes. About setting up email alert notification of backup jobs, a lot of things are involved in Windows OS such as batch file, Perl script, VBS script and scheduled task for my case.
