Stephen,

UMB is (Universal Management Board) according to TD internal documentation.

If TVI is enabled that has the capability detecting bad hardware. I donot know if UMB is tracked in it.

But seriously think about having standby's if the system availability is too important for customer.

Even with stand-by's the restart is imminent to bring in the node where processes migrate to the healthy node.
