Hi Donna:

Since there is no "text" setting in BTEQ, I am guessing that you are using REPORT, which is the default for a .export.

Have you deleted the first record from the output file? It will be your heading record for the select since it assumes a report is being generated. DATA does not produce a header record, but it is also a variable length record with a binary length indicator on the front of each record.
