Subj:   Re: No Stats better then Current Stats?

From:   Roth, David W

Most of us are not in denial at all. I have seen this case, and other oddities, like having an index with stats sometimes creates a better plan, than just stats on the column...even though it does not use the index :)

Bottom line is, it is always suggested (strongly) that you need to evaluate any changes to ensure that they result in the desired effect.

Good news is that Teradata engineers are aware of issues, and continue to make improvements (I agree, head in the sand position would be bad). Stats are one of the enhancements in the V12 version: larger demographic ranges, changes to the costing algorithm, etc. Best thing you can do to help the process is to send your examples to the GSC, so they get the best information possible to weed out the "issues".

So we are with you; we want the best optimized plans also. After all, we have sla's to meet too.

Regards,

Dave
