Hi Michael: Apparently INSTEAD OF triggers have been dropped. From SQL Reference: Data Definition Statements; Release V2R6.1, November 2005: Unsupported Trigger Features The Teradata Database does not support triggers created in releases 5.0 and earlier that have any of the following features: * INSTEAD OF as the trigger action time * BEFORE statement triggers * BEFORE row triggers with data-changing statements The system reports an error if old triggers with any of these features are found by a triggering event on a table. Any such trigger must be redefined if it is to be used in the current release. It also says that the object a trigger is attached to cannot be a view. Dave
