There are numerous approaches of generating surrogate keys. One of the projects I was in we had a channel attached TD environment and was using
the SYNCSORT utility from the mainframe. It worked really well. After generating a flat file with keys it was quickly loaded into TD. I am sure
similar approach can be followed in any other environment, i.e. generate the keys not on TD side, but use the utilities of a particular operating
system.
