Hi Bill,

It is my understanding that all new Teradata features introduced starting with V2R5.0 rely on a larger node memory availability for best performance, for instance Cylinder Slots/AMP may improve I/O throughput significantly, because a single read operation loads a complete cylinder of data to node memory, instead of performing multiple I/Os, one for each data block in the cylinder. You need to dedicate reserved memory buffers for this feature, the default is 4 buffers per AMP, but you may tune this in order to improve performance for your specific workload. Being a DSS shop probably you have many FTS (Full Table Scans) that could run faster.

Cylinder Slots/AMP is just an example, I think it's a very good investment to increase memory to 4 GB in older MP RAS nodes if you would like to take the best advantage of all the new functionalities released during the last two or three years.

Regards.
