Subj:   Re: MLOAD IMPORT TASK DELETE VS MLOAD DELETE TASK

From:   Michael Larkins

Hi Andrea:

An IMPORT task in Mload has to go through an input of all the data (acquisition phase) and then send all the data to Teradata and then put the data with the SQL in order to do a bunch of single AMP operations in the application phase at the same time. The application phase must then take out individual rows as identified in the delete by their PI.

The DELETE task in Mload takes the DELETE command and goes directly to the application phase. The application phase need only go through every block checking the date value to see which ones to remove across all AMPs.

Even the explanation of the activity is shorter for a DELETE. Go with the DELETE if it is a non-PI column used to determine which rows to delete.

Hope this helps,
