Subj:   Column compression with single and multi values

From:   Chakinala, Raju

Hi

Columns are compressed with COMPRESS stmt with single value or multi values, I have the column called 'SUFFIX' which most of the records are null and remaining values would be Sr and Jr

The following which stmt is most efficient in this case and what would be the compress stmt without value ?

     (a) SUFFIX char(2)

     (a) SUFFIX char(2) compress

     (b) SUFFIX char(2) compress('Sr','Jr')

For null compression do I need to specifically mention COMPRESS stmt without value or by default teradata compress the all null values ?

Appreciate for your help.

Thanks,
