Subj:   Re: Adding Nodes to a System: Re-Collection of Stats necessary?

  We are about to add 4 Nodes to our existing 16 Node system and have been advised to recollect statistics on all tables within our Warehouse.  


  This is obviously a pretty time consuming and resource intensive task, particularly on a weekend window already reduced in size by the upgrade itself and the accompanying redistribution process.  


  My question is simple enough although the answer might not be - Is it necessary and why (or why not) ?  


I know I am in the minority on this subject but, in general, I would say that it is an essential step. I would advise to do it.

For some reason this question is usually asked on Friday, the day I (and many other members of the forum?)usually have to commute. But I can at least provide the reference for the previous run on the topic in hope it can push the discussion further, perhaps on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, where it is still business as usual:
