This is a battle that has been fought over and over again.....The truth of the matter is that there is no right answer to this question in my
view. While relational theory does say all that has been said and more, allowances for duplicate data rows in table constructs are a concession
to reality and afford a way to bring data into a relational environment that might otherwise be problematic to capture. Sure, you can say that is
what ETL is for but in many environments, an RDBMS is not just the repository for the data but it often also plays an important part in the
transformation of data. The power of relation theory can be brought to bear on some data transformation problems quite effectively! NCR itself
has been known to crow about Teradata's prowess in this area.....And I am sure we all have pressed a butter knife into service as a screwdriver
from time to time.....That's life!
