Subj:   Re: Is collect statistics ok along with read lock

From:   Victor Sokovin

Can I run collect statistics while there are read locks on the table ?

(I don't see a technical reason why I can't , but my bulb doesn't seem to be so bright lately)

I was reminded of this question while attending yesterday an NCR presentation of the extreme availability architecture for active data warehousing. On-line statistics collection has been mentioned as one of the features to look forward for. The presentation, however, was too short to cover any technical background, and I did not have a chance to chat about it either.

I can't find the information on this in the Release Summary for R6.1, the first source I consulted after the presentation.

I am now a bit confused as to whether this feature applies to a single database installation or only to the "dual active" systems, i.e., two separate active systems plus query dispatching software.

Could anybody shed some light on how on-line statistics collection is going to be implemented?

Regards,

Victor
