Subj:   Re: ARCMAIN throughput - limiting factors

My original text: 'Currently we are able to achieve about 30 GB per hour with one archive job; we occasionally run two archives concurrently, and our total throughput doubles to about 60 GB per hour."

Anonymous Responder: is the second archive run under a different TDP than the first? If so, I suspect that escon throughput is the limiting factor, and by running the second archive under a different TDP you are making more escon capacity available to your archives.

My response: We have just one TDP connected to two mainframe hosts or LPARs. We do have multiple ESCON channels on the mainframe however. Since it has been made clear to me that a single backup job uses only one ESCON connection, and given the limits on ESCON throughput that I have seen, that would appear to be our limiting factor.
