If you are using a Teradata utility to load the data from FastExport, use the MODE INDICATOR (instead of RECORD) on the export and the MLOAD .LAYOUT should also use INDICATOR.

This allows the null indicator presence bits to be placed in front of the data record on the export allows the load utilities to automatically handle the null processing. You won't need to utilize case statements or even NULLIF's.
