There's a "set session dateform = ansidate;" on session level, but i don't know if it helps in that case.

Another possible solution might be changing the default date format of your dev system to match the prod system using dbscontrol:

There's General Field 15 (Dateform) and (depending on your release) there was another field to specify the default date format.
