Virtually every RDBMS has its own, vendor specific data tool that is used to unload table data in some native format. This tool/utility
usually provides the capability to backup/recovery logical objects in the RDBMS. For Teradata, that tool/utility is ARCMAIN. While ARCMAIN
provides a way for getting the data out of and back into Teradata, it is up to the user to build all the necessary scripting, scheduling, tape
and/or file management, etc. to make for a robust backup/recovery infrastructure.
NetVault basically provides most of the basic additional infrastructure required when building a backup/recovery solution, in a box.
Understand that it is still the ARCMAIN tool/utility that is used even with NetVault, to produce the physical backup/archive data from Teradata
objects backed up. Additionally, NetVault provides the framework to backup files/objects from non-Teradata environments also.
