Hi,

We have been using roles for quite a while, and with Business Objects.

There are several reason why you would want to make use of roles over the top of individual user access rights.

1. The biggest reason for using roles, is to reduce the number of records within the access rights table, which can add a significant overhead when the numbers increase.

2. Ease of maintenance. In general you will tend to have common groups of functional users, in your case 'Data Modeller' and the individual Cognos projects sounds like a perfect match to a role within Teradata.
