I'm planning to use the SET ROLE, but only in Development. In this environment I'm planning to create a 'Data Modeller' Role that has a little more privilege than a bog-standard developer.

In this way, particular developers would be allocated to that Role, which they can then set on and off as and when they need to perform certain DBA type tasks.

Given that our actual users connect to a particular database, which itself has Grant Select on Views WITH GRANT OPTION, I couldn't see much of a use of Roles myself.
