I have implemented MDS at several sites and it can do all of this and more.

Initial setup and basic loading of the object descriptions is pretty simple.

The MetaBrowse component is easy to setup. The new security in windows SP2 has made this a little more difficult because you have to change some of the default security setting to get the app to work, NCR can help with this.

If you want to implement the Client Load Model (CLM) this is more involved because you will have to build the process to scan your ETL processes. This is generally not something that can be done Off-The-Shelf because every load process is different. If you want to implement the CLM I recommend getting help.

For those that haven't read the docs: The basic loading of object descriptions goes into the Application Information Model (AIM) part of MDS. This includes Database Name and description, Table name and description, Column name, description, data type and what views, macros, procedures reference each. These objects can be loaded from a spreadsheet(descriptions) and from scanning the user database(s).

The CLM part of MDS contains the metadata about where the data came from. What script loaded it, what file did it come from, what tables were used to transform it, and any other useful information the the user would like to include. MDS is fully extensible. The developer can add any aspectsy would like to the model to meet their Metadata needs.

The best part is, the software is FREE with every copy of Teradata.

NCR offers a service to help implement MDS and there are also third party vendors who offer this.
