Subj:   Re: How can retrieve BMP/JPG/GIF thru SQL Assistant?

From:   Victor Sokovin

Mike,

The limit of 1 MB is only for LOADING BLOB columns via SQL Assistant. (Even that limit can be circumvented if you have enough memory on your PC and dont mind altering a registry entry.)

Blobs themselves can be up to 2GB, and SQL Assistant can download these columns to a local file ... if you are willing to wait for the data transfer. (Applies to Windows NT/2000/XP - Win95/98 have much lower limits.)

Are there any alternatives to SQLA for loading or exporting BLOBs? I probably should download and check out the latest manuals (and not spend your time on such questions) but the 2003 versions of ML or FastExport do not even seem to mention BLOBs at all.

Just to make sure: I'm asking not because I'm unhappy about SQLA. I'm sure it does its best on most occasions. The limitations usually come from the server or client OS, ODBC, etc. It would just be useful to know what the bulk utilities can offer regarding BLOBs. Not to compare them to SQLA or something - they clearly serve differenc purposes and are useful in different situations.

The subject is so rare on the forum that I can't resist asking for more information.

Victor
