Subj:   Re: Regarding Teradata Cofiguration

From:   Victor Sokovin

planning to develop a EDW on Teradata with 10 TB of data and 2000 users. What should be an appropriate configuration.

The number of users is not enough to size the system. You need to know what the users are going to do with it. Their activity can range from 24x7 non-stop querying to getting an occasional report delivered to their desk by some application or another user.

When I read the question for the first time my totally ad hoc minimal estimate was 20 nodes for the "average" workload, if there is such a thing at all. It is good to see a similar estimate from another poster but your requirements might divert from the average.

The good thing with TD is that you can start with some configuration and later resize it, so even if the first estimate was not exactly right, it is not the end of the day. However, I want to mention that it is no fun to work on the obviously undersized system. You can get a totally wrong impression of TD. So, start with something not too modest and resize it later.

Regards,

Victor
