I did some extensive questioning of NCR on this, and it's some sort of internal counter, nothing very sophisticated. I don't even think it was
a dbc table. If I remember correctly, it was simply an accumulator in a memory location that is simply incremented and decremented. I'm
unfortunately working from memory on this one. I can't find my notes on this and I think the specific answer was in an old incident I submitted
that I no long have access to (since it's been one or two companies ago).
