Value at my site is determined by a similar philosophy. It's a true paradox that the value of the warehouse really can not be answered by
anyone on the data warehouse team. The true value lies with the application of the information in the DW by the end users. What are they doing
to grow the business now that they have this great new tool?
Maybe it is just that they are doing the same things as before the DW, but only faster now. So value could be expressed in terms of hours
saved. But then what are they doing with this new found time? That is the question I am still trying to get answered, so I understand the
challenge. I believe for us that it will be something like, we were able to try these 10 new campaigns this year that we have never done before
and could not do without the warehouse. Those 10 campaigns brought us X number of new customers and Y number of profit or at least increased
sales. Showing that to UPPERs, I would imagine it hard to question the DW value. The key is just figuring out what end-user activities the DW
influenced and their value.
Anyway, just my thoughts on it.
