Wow... This has turned out to be a great topic.

I appreciate the feedback that the A-Team has provided. So far what I have gotten out of this is... "The scariest environment imaginable!"

This has been my point to the UPPERs to date. When you ask for a simple thing like metrics, if you do not have the foundation in place, this is an enormous task. There is no value in number of logins if you do not understand why the users are logging into the system in the first place.

You cannot capture the pertinent information from the users if you do not have a clear understanding of what you have within the warehouse. Oftentimes the process in determining ROI for any environment is the ability to research the path of usage.

It all has to connect together to be able to report: We have 4,238 users that have run 45,234 queries maximizing our monthly sales campaigns with an increase in profits of 22% based on figures from the last 10 years. Oh and here's a nice chart that prove it!

The solution is global and requires what I see as the inverted pyramid method. The UPPERs want to see the big picture of their operations until there is a problem and then they want to drill down to the port level to get things resolved. This is great but you cannot have the high level and the port level without everything else in-between and it is the in-between that takes the most effort.

This area is a passion of mine. I do appreciate everyone that has answered this thread. I will do my best to share the process with you as I move forward with this direction.

Best Regards
