Subj:   Re: Teradata connection via Mac OS X

From:   Balchunas, John

We are top-heavy with "fruit-users" here at JCPS, just like at many other K-12 schools.

Despite years of trying (over 16), we have never been able to connect any variant of Apple computers to Teradata.

Informal contacts with Teradata (when it was a separate company), NCR, consultants and others implied that the marketshare and MAC demand is very small and therefore there will NEVER be any kind of MAC "ODBC", "CLI" or other similar connection.

The only work-around has been to develop web applications that are compatible with browsers running on a MAC. For that, we have been using ASP code as our universal web development tool (along with dot net, etc).

As more and more of our business and student TP apps are becoming PC-based, gradually there has been a slight shift toward the PC as the universal tool of choice. Some of our users have both a MAC and a PC on their desktop (another work-around).
