I suspect that, because UNION - as opposed to UNION ALL - eliminates duplicates, the eight table had a number of entries that result in
duplicate entries being removed from your answer set.
Put another way, from your example, "And the row count kept on decreasing until atlast we got some 5000 records" was just symptomatic of there
only being 5000 unique rows in total.
