satwinder.p.singh: I indicated in my reply to the question that the data might need to be converted to character because the load utility may not be able to read a 4-byte binary value when imbedded between a delimiter of any fashion. All of the delimited files I have every seen are character data. Even MLOAD and FastLoad need the data to be VARCHAR when reading a delimited file. FastExport will export int as a 4-byte binary, smallint as 2-byte binary, byteint as 1-byte binary and decimal as packed zoned decimal with a 4-bit sign. FastExport is not exporting a report format. It exports raw data. This data is not meant for people to read, as in character data. It has nothing to do with using a delimiter. The delimiter is simply a field separator. However, I do not know which database, file system, utility or programming language is being used to do whatever it is that is being done with the exported data in question. That was not part of the original question. Hence, I made the comment: "it may be necessary to CAST the data to character" - that is all. Hope this clears up your confusion, Michael Larkins
